Adeyemi College Re-appoints Abdul as College Bursar

The Governing Council, Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo has re-appointed Mr. Abdul Ganiyu to serve a second term as the Bursar of the College.

This was revealed by the Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede, who said that the duration of this term is for another five (5) years.

While revealing this development, The Registrar acknowledged receipt of his notification of the expiration of his tenure and application for renewal of appointment for a second term in a letter dated 6th August, 2018.

She said that the Governing Council took the decision to approve the renewal of his appointment at its meeting held on Friday, 12th October, 2018.

According to Mrs. Fakorede, the renewed appointment will take effect from Wednesday, 19th December, 2018 to Monday, 18th December, 2023.

The Secretary to Council congratulated the appointee and extended her “best wishes for a successful tenure”.

Mr. Abdul Ganiyu was first appointed as Bursar of the College with effect from 19th December, 2013 for a period of five (5) years in a letter referenced RPA/ABD/2535/162 and dated 27th January, 2014.

Born on the 25th July, 1965, at Upenmen-Owo to the family of Mr. Usikaye Abdulahi Abdul and Mrs. Florence Omolola Abdul (nee Adedeji).

A native of Upenmen-Owo in Owo Local Government area of Ondo State, he attended St. James’s Anglican Primary School, Upenmen for his First School Leaving Certificate from 1971/1972 to 1976/1977.

Later, he went on to New Church Grammar School, Owo and Ekamarun Anglican Grammar School, Ifon for his General Certificate of Education (GCE) from 1977 to 1982 and 1982-1983 respectively.

Equipped with an analytical mind and a fondness for figures, Mr. Abdul went on to pursue a degree in Accountancy and acquired a National Diploma (ND) in Accountancy from the then Ondo State Polytechnic (now Rufus Giwa Polytechnic) Owo in 1991.

In 1995, he acquired a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy from the same polytechnic.

Mr. Abdul, with an uncanny foresight of what development and the computer age would require, took a foray from his regular academic pursuit and acquired a Diploma in Computer Studies from the reputable Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo in 2003 and a Master in Business Administration, in 2005, from the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko.

He followed these up by becoming an Associate Chattered Accountant and a Fellow Chartered Accountant in 2006 and 2017 respectively.

Prior to his appointment as the Bursar of Adeyemi College of Education in 2013, Mr. Abdul worked as a Clerical Assistant with Owo Local Government, Owo from 1983 to 1985.

He was promoted to a Clerical Officer in the same local government council from 1985 till 1988 and to a Senior Clerical Officer (Accounts) from 1988 to 1991.

Within a space of three years, he became the Assistant Executive Officer (Accounts) from 1991 to 1993 and was upgraded to the position of Executive Officer (accounts), which he held until he was placed on full scholarship for his HND programme in Accountancy at Ondo State Polytechnic from 1993 to 1995.

His prowess with figures and numbers were utilized even before he acquired his ND and HND in Accountancy.

Not to be limited to just cash books, balance sheets, debits and credits and advances alone, he branched out to other aspects of figures and numbers and taught at Government Secondary School, Tangaza, Tangaza Local Government, Sokoto during his National Youths Service Years from 1995 to 1996.

After his service year, he worked with the Local Government Service Commission, Akure (Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government) from 1996 to 1999 as a Principal Accounts Assistant IV, Principal Accounts Assistant III from 1999 to 2002, Principal Executive Officer II (Accounts) from 2002 to 2005, Principal Executive Officer 1 (Accounts) from July 2005 to December 2005 and Senior Accountant from 2006 to 2007.

Mr. Abdul was first employed in Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo as a Principal Accountant in 2007 and held the position up till 2009.

He was promoted to Chief Accountant and served from 2009 to 2012.

He took a step further on the ladder by becoming the Deputy Bursar of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo from 2012 to 2013, doubling as the Acting Bursar of the College from June, 2011 to 2013.

He was eventually appointed Bursar of the College on 19th December, 2013.

Mr. Abdul was also active in the various relevant professional bodies and had attended various conferences among which are ICAN Workshop on Tax Practice at Kaduna in 2008, Annual Accountants Conference at Abuja in 2012, Workshop organized by Cosnia Classic Consultancy Limited in Forensic Accounting and Fraud Detection at London, United Kingdom in 2014, ICAN MCPE Training in IPSAS at Port Harcourt in 2017 and several others.

Added to his cache of achievements are prizes such as Best Worker of the Year at Owo Local Government in 1987 and Best Financial Accounting HND Student at Ondo State Polytechnic, Owo in the 1994/1995 academic session.

Mr. Abdul Ganiyu Olaniyi is the current Bursar of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo and would begin his second term as the Bursar, immediately after he concludes his first term, on the 19th December, 2018.

He is married to Mrs. Felicia Olayinka Abdul and the union is blessed with four children.
