Provost Bags Nelson Mandela Leadership Award

The Provost of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, Dr. Samuel Akintunde has received YAN @ 60 youth role model 2020 award. The award was presented to him on Wednesday, 28 April, 2021 at a brief event in his office by the Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN) Speaker accompanied by other executives of the group.

In his reaction, Dr. Akintunde thanked the executive of YAN for honouring him with the award, as he promised to continue to carry the youth along in the scheme of things.

Earlier in his speech, while handing over the award to the Provost, the speaker of YAN, Ambassador Taiwo Tolulope stated that the award is known as “Nelson Mandela Leadership Award Series for Excellence and Integrity”.

Speaking further, Ambassador Taiwo said that “YAN is giving the award to Dr. Akintunde in recognition of his leadership skill and his impact in the tertiary educational system of our dear nation.”

He described the Provost as a lover of youth, an emissary of societal development, youth builder and someone who is dedicated to the betterment of youth uplift.

The YAN orator added that Dr. Akintunde’s unrelenting contributions towards youth and students’ developmental projects was part of criteria considered in selecting him for the award, as he urged the Provost not to change his mind on his good deeds and prayed that God should continue to favour him all the days of his life.

The National Secretary of YAN, Comrade Luke Ogerugba said that they were in the College to give honour to whom honour is due, noting that God richly blessed our country, Nigeria, with everything needed by any nation to develop but the youth have continued to swim in abject poverty and have not been meaningfully engaged because of leadership failure at all level in our country.

He added that in as much as the youth of this nation would not relent in their fight to occupy their rightful place. “The Youth will not fail to recognize some of the leaders who have the interest of the Youth at heart.”

Lending his voice, the group’s Publicity Secretary, Comrade Olajide Olakunle said that “One of the things that motivated them to select Dr. Akintunde for the award is because they saw him as a round peg in a round hole.”

Speaking further, Comrade Olajide said that after sending their letter to the College they also sent their “think tank” to the College to carry out research on the Provost and their findings were highly impressive. He described Dr. Akintunde as youth-friendly and astute leader.

Those in attendance included: Deputy Provost, Dr. Gbade Ikuejube; Assistant Deputy Registrar, Mrs. Bimpe Olabode; Director of Media, YAN, Comrade David Balogun; and Information Officers from the College’s Directorate of Information and Public Relations.
