Meet the Provost
Dr. Samuel Akintunde is the second alumnus to head the institution in the 54 years of existence of the College. Dr. Akintunde who hails from Ilora in Afijio Local Government in Oyo State was born in the 60s.
He had his elementary education in Ekiti and Oyo states. He is a graduate of Geography Education in the then School of Applied Arts and Science, Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo and has a Master of Education (M.Ed.) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Social Studies from the foremost university in Nigeria, University of Ibadan, Ibadan.
He has been a lecturer in the Department of Social Studies in the last two decades and risen to the rank of Chief Lecturer. A seasoned academic, he has presented 32 papers at various conferences in Nigeria and abroad, two published conference proceedings, and 60 publications comprising chapters published articles in national and international journals and attended nine workshops.
He has been a facilitator: Oyo, Ondo, and Ekiti States Universal Basic Education Boards in the training of primary and secondary school teachers; Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) capacity workshop for Community Development Committees and the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) training programmes.
Prior to his appointment in the College, Akintunde served as a Geography teacher, Government Secondary School, Malete, Ilorin, Kwara State during the national service from 1991 to 1992. He later taught Geography and Social Studies at Yinbol College, Orogun, Ibadan, Oyo State from 1995 to 1996.
Employed in the College as Lecturer III in 1997, he has served in various capacities such as the head, Department of Social Studies between 2004 and 2007; Chairman of the School of Arts and Social Sciences Seminar Committee from 2006 to2007; Member, College Sports Committee from 2004 to 2007 and was eventually made the secretary of the Committee in 2006.
Dr. Akintunde served as Secretary of College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo from 2007 to 2009, and later as Chairman of the Union from 2013 to 2016.
Dr. Akintunde is happily married with promising children.
Our History
Located in Ondo, southwestern Nigeria, the host town is rich in agricultural resources and is the largest centre for the cultivation and processing of cocoa in Nigeria. Surrounded by beautiful hills, the Ondo are known for their thirst and quest for education. Interestingly, the town is home to the first community secondary school in Nigeria and the oldest secondary school in southeastern Yorubaland (Ondo Boys' High School founded in 1919). No wonder, it is the only town in Nigeria with three specialised degree awarding institutions, namely, Adeyemi College of Education, Wesley University of Science and Technology and Ondo State University of Medical Sciences. The royal portrait painter, Chinwe Chukwuogo-Roy, MBE, who painted the official portrait of Queen Elizabeth in 2001 was born in Ondo in 1952.
Adeyemi College of Education located in Ondo (the historic town after which the Sunshine state was named, in the Central Senatorial District in Ondo State of Nigeria which is situated between latitudes 5° 45' and 7° 52'N and Longitudes 4° 20' and 6° 05'E and is bounded on the east by Edo and Delta states, on the west by Ogun and Osun States, on the north by Ekiti and Kogi States and on the south by the Bight of Benin and the Atlantic Ocean) is one of the foremost institutions in Nigeria. The College is a combination of the various insitutions that sprang up in the sixties to cater for the development of Manpower in secondary schools and teacher training colleges in the Western region. Teachers college (up to 1963), The Ransome Kuti College of Education, The Olunloyo College of Education and Ohio Teachers Project, Ondo all consituted the solid foundation on which it was built.
