Adeyemi College Embarks on Construction of N599.9m Students’ Hostel

As part of efforts aimed at addressing shortage of students accommodation, Management of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo has dropped hints of a plan to embark on the construction of a one-storey building in the institution.

The hostel contract, funded through Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) Special Intervention for Year 2020, had been advertised and reputable construction companies have indicated interest in the job estimated at Four Hundred and Eighty Five Million, Seven Hundred and Fifty-One thousands, Three Hundreds and Forty-Nine Naira, Eighty-eight Kobo (N485,751,349.88) only.

The external works on the building are also expected to gulp the sum of One hundred and fourteen millions, one hundred and twelve thousands, seven hundred and thirty-six naira Nineteen Kobo (N114,112, 736. 19) only.

Speaking at the bid opening exercise, which preceded the announcement of names of successful companies that came for the exercise in the College on Monday, 17 May, 2021, the Provost of the College, Dr. Samuel Akintunde, welcome representatives of all interested companies present.

He explained that the construction of the one-storey hostel and execution of external works that would be done on it were funded by TETFUND.

The College Chief Executive further explained that the companies invited for the bid opening exercise were arrived at consequent upon receipt of “No Objection” statement from the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).

He further enumerated that the exercise would be completed after financial data of each of the invited companies have been carried out.

Also in her brief remarks, the Acting Director of Procurement, Mrs. Aderonke Esrom, represented by Mrs. Funmilade Francisca Omotayo stated that the exercise was carried out to ascertain the financial capability of each of the companies invited.

She explained that the invitation of successful bidders was done through the application of selective tendering method in line with directives of the BPP.

For transparency, names of invited companies and their quoted prices for the job as well as the College prices were publicly announced as the bids were opened.

Names of the companies which submitted financial bids for each of the two projects classified under LOT 1 and 2, were Hafadis Global Concept Ltd; Pholataiz Nigeria Limited; Afribased Projects Ltd and Bukar and Bounty Limited.

After the completion of hostel bidding, the technical bids submitted by 18 insurance companies that had indicated interest as consultants in providing insurance cover for College assets for Year 2021/2022 were also opened.

Those interested in rendering consultancy services to the College were: Alliance Nigeria Insurance Ltd, Oakland and City Insurance brokers Ltd, Alliance and General Insurance Plc, Leadway Assurance Company Ltd, Jacob and Caroline Insurance Brokers Ltd, Unitrust Insurance Company Ltd, First Adequate Benefits Insurance brokers Ltd.

Others were First Dominion Insurance Brokers Ltd, Zenith Insurance Ltd, Consolidated Hallmark Insurance Plc, Prestige Assurance Plc, NEM Insurance Plc, FBN General Insurance, AIICO Insurance Plc, and Custodian and Allied Insurance Ltd, Cornerstone Insurance Plc, Mutual Benefits Assurance and Anchor Insurance Company Ltd.

In his reaction to the financial and technical bid openings, a representative of the Nigerian Institute of Architects who came to observe the exercise, Mr. Awoyemi Olanrewaju commended the Provost and other principal officers of the College for sustaining transparency and fairness in the conduct of the exercise.

The architect urged authorities of the institution not to relent on its performances, saying that would go a long way in boosting the image of the College.

The exercise, which held at the College New Centre for Educational Technology (CET) building, was attended by principal officers of the College: Deputy Provost, Dr Gbade Ikuejube; Registrar, Mrs Olufisayo Fakorede; College Librarian, Mr. Azino Akpokurerie, represented by Mr Michael Jatto; and Bursar, Mr. Ganiyu Abdul.

Others were: representative of the Centre for Social Reconditioning and Development, Ado-Ekiti, Mr Eyitayo Fabunmi; head of Servicom Unit, Mr. Samuel Omobolade; head of Legal Unit, Mrs. Abimbola Adeduro; and staff from the Directorate of Information and Public Relations.
