PROVOST COMMISSIONS ROTARY CLUB’S BOREHOLE PROJECT
Provost Commissions Rotary Club’s Borehole Project
The Provost, Dr. Samuel Akintunde, who is also a member of the club, has commissioned a water project donated by the Rotary Club of Ondo-Adeyemi College to provide potable water for students in the institution.
Speaking at the inauguration of the project site at the Education Trust Fund (ETF) Hall of Residence on Thursday, 17 June, 2021, the club president, Rotarian Cecilia Olanrewaju described the event as another landmark achievement of the Rotary Club.
She expressed sincere appreciation to the Provost and College management for finding time to “share the memorable day with the club despite their busy schedule.”
Dr. Olanrewaju noted that the Rotary Club of Ondo-Adeyemi College has been in the institution for over eight years and it has become its tradition to commission projects in the College community.
She stated that the step is in tandem with Rotary International’s seven areas of focus: basic education and literacy, water and sanitation, peace and conflict resolution, environment, maternal and child care, disease prevention and treatment, economic and community development.
Rotarian Olanrewaju listed some of the club’s achievements in its eight years of existence as planting trees at the College’s Demonstration Secondary School, purchasing laptops and scanners for students, providing crutches to physically challenged students and providing education support to 50 students.
Others notable projects done by the club, she added, were installation of borehole with overhead tanks at Adeyemi Primary School in collaboration with some donors distribution of palliatives to low-income earners in the College community during the era of lockdown occasioned by the outbreak of the dreaded corona virus last year.
The president, who is the Head of Department of Home Economics, stated that the rationale behind the drilling of borehole at the ETF Hall was in fulfillment of club’s promise to ease the problem of water facing students living in the hostel.
She revealed that the move was also geared at complementing the efforts of College management in the task of providing potable water for students in the institution.
She commended those who donated funds for the actualization of the project, as she countered an erroneous perception held in certain quarters that Rotary Club is exclusively for the rich.
The Rotary president appealed to her colleagues in the College and other public spirited individuals to join the club, maintaining that every widow’s mite counts in Rotary.
“Rotary Club is wrongly perceived as a club of the rich, which is not true. I passionately appeal to our colleagues in the College to join us at Rotary for the betterment of this community,’’ she said.
While commending the club in his remarks, Dr. Akintunde congratulated the outgoing Rotary president on the great exploits demonstrated through the provision of borehole for students’ use in the institution.
He stated that the project would help in complementing facilities on ground in the College and would go a long way in alleviating the difficulties that water shortages had caused students.
Reiterating the determination of College management to boosting students’ welfare, the Provost expressed hope that additional support from other corporate organizations would come in the task of advancing the institution.
