VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION
The School of Vocational and Technical Education started as School of Applied Arts and Sciences in 1964 with four (4) Departments, namely: Department of Agricultural Science, Department of Fine and Applied Arts, Department of Home Economics and Department of Physical and Health Education, to run NCCE programmes. The restructuring of the College of Education system during 1992/1993 academic session gave birth to the School of Vocational and Technical Education with three (3) Departments, namely: Agricultural Science, Fine and Applied Arts and Home Economics running both Degree and NCE programmes. Department of Business Education was later established during same academic session to run NCE programmes in Secretarial and Accounting Studies in addition to three (3) existing Departments.
The School of Vocational and Technical Education has witnessed remarkable developments in terms of students’ enrolment, staff strength, infrastructures, teaching and learning resources over the years. Ultra-modern buildings have been built for all the departments.
As at the last accreditation by the NCCE and NUC, all programmes of the School of Vocational and Technical Education were given full accreditation status. Fine and Applied Arts as a discipline in Vocational and Technical Education provides opportunities for career in textiles, graphics design, ceramics, sculpture, metal fabrication and painting; while Home Economics provides career in Food and Nutrition, Home Management, Clothing and Textiles. Business Education provides career in Secretariat and Accounting; while Agricultural Science provides career in Animal Production, Crop Production and Fish Production; all of which are capable of creating wealth, providing employment for sustainable development and contribute to the economic growth of the nation.
Furthermore, the School organizes stimulating seminars, workshops and conferences on critical issues associated with sustainable agricultural production, entrepreneurial development, artistic creativity and poverty eradication. General ideas and reflections on human survival devoid of unemployment, poverty and diseases are published in referenced books and learned journals such as the Journal of Science, Vocational and Technical Education (JOSVTE), Journal in Management and Business Education (JMBE). Since inception, the School has produced trained teachers that services the academic needs of Ondo Community and other parts of the country. Apart from professional teachers, the school has also produced many self-reliant and competent professionals in public and private organisations associated with agriculture, cottage industries, creative arts and quality nutrition across the nation and beyond.
